The pain is caused by compression of the sciatic nerve that runs from the lower part of the back to the leg.

How is the pain?
It is usually sharp and severe in intensity, it can vary widely, from a mild pain, numbness for periods of time to a burning sensation or unbearable pain, a jolt or an electric shock.

The sciatic nerve is the longest and largest in the body, which is why depending on the root it affects, the pain could occur from the back to the back of the leg, front, groin, calf or even the foot.

Causes

The most common is due to the presence of a herniated disc, due to a violent movement, either due to an accident or the practice of impact sports.

Also, if a family member has already had sciatica problems, it is very likely that they are prone to having herniated discs.
